Fatal accident at Muckalee trestle claims James Cabagan
A laborer named James Cabagan, new to Americus, died early Sunday at the Central railroad trestle over Muckalee creek. The coroner's jury ruled he was killed by falling or being thrown from passenger train No. 8 bound for Macon, after likely attempting to ride the train. Only 80 cents, a razor, a brush fragment, pipe and tobacco were found on his person. Funeral held in Americus with no known relatives.

In Esexezen on December 31 the community welcomed a rain shower farmers longed for. Little Mamie Battle died last Friday from slow fever and was buried at Friendship with Rev. B. W. Davis officiating. Local social notes mention visits from Miss Mary Lizzie Hart and others, with whispers of an upcoming wedding.

Wealthy Colored Farmer Anderson Austin Succeeds on 34 Acres
Anderson Austin a bright looking citizen colored, made a good year on thirty four acres of rented land in Culloden district. He paid 1000 pounds of lint cotton rent to W R Davis. He planted ten acres in corn twenty two in cotton two in promiscuous crops and produced fifteen bales of cotton eight hundred bushels of corn fifty bushels of peas one hundred sixty five bushels of potatoes eighty seven gallons of sorghum syrup and one hundred thirty seven gallons of ribbon syrup. He used no manure and hired eighteen dollars worth of dry labor. He worked hard and kept his crop clean. He had three sores that made five heavy bales.
