Americus Georgia stands as the county seat of Sumter County on the Southwestern Railroad, 71 miles from Macon, boasting climate, healthful air, artesian-water utilities, a large mercantile base, two newspapers, an opera house, a modern fire department, and plans for water works and new rail connections. The city is described as the largest in Southwest Georgia with extensive manufacturing and financial facilities and rapid growth aided by railroad lines.
The Dawson area reports last Wednesday’s county officers vote with re-elected officials and changes in Ordinary Sheriff and Treasurer. A Saturday Justice of the Peace race favored M. G. Statham. Insurance firms paid in full fire losses.
