Mayor's Court fined or street ten days for Bid Wilson with disorderly conduct. Mrs Johnson gravely ill at Prince Street residence with typho malarial fever.
Mesara Geo E Clarke and Bro of Savannah purchase the Smithville News outfit and goodwill, issuing their first number last week. The note of congratulation mentions Mr Martin of Lee and election case interest. Mayor Polder seeks cross ties for rails to Americus. Ice Works expands with a new fire plug and planned sheet iron boiler room to reduce insurance. Mayor urged to mention Salvation Oil cures rheumatism neuralgia kidney complaints in next message.
Insurance money totals for Annie Slappey and Rose & Holt show insurers moving toward settlement. Americas City Council schedules March 18 bond election for 35,000 to fund sewerage. Brunswick rail yard expands with a new side track and baggage awning. Work begins on courthouse sidewalk. public input requested in writing after hours.

Mr. W T Prather recently opened a photograph gallery in the Hart building and has sold it to Mr. C F McDaniel of Milledgeville. McDaniel plans to make Americus his future home and hopes to win public patronage by doing good work at living prices.
The Circun carnival drew a good crowd yesterday with jammed streets and an afternoon attendance higher than the evening. Performances entertained and satisfied most spectators, while the parade rivaled finer shows. Artesian Water: Hawkins connected an artesian well to Lamar Street stock basin but the cold water kept stock from drinking until Chairman Williams ordered a warmer stream from the artesian pump.
Citizens of Sumter and adjacent counties are urged to donate one dollar to fund a monument to Confederate dead. Contributions collected at Bagley & Argo's by J J Granberry or D W Bagley in care of Mrs 8 L Maxwell. February 29, 1889. Also note a local dry goods clerk frightened Sunday night by a rumor of Jack the Ripper. he grabbed a gun and nearly shot through the stove pipe.
Simon Ellis petitioned for bail. Judge Fort approved a $1000 bond after a brief review of testimony. By late yesterday no bondsman had been located to post the bond.
Mr J F Bolton, years seeking fortune in groceries, has become a contractor and builder. He began yesterday tearing down the burned Hudson building, top loss, to restore it as habitable space. The corner shop will house Slappy Bros groceries, second room Harris Payne gas fitters, third J R Hudson Co avoda water bottling, last room F G Oliver sewing machines.
Governor Gordon ruled the election contest in tee county favors J F Deas over W J Ferguson for tax receiver. He voided precincts whose tally sheets lacked signatures, but found the majority and proper conduct of the election sufficient to uphold the result. A renowned Louisville surgeon Dr Edward von Donhoff will visit Americus next Monday traveling from the South to locate. He is praised by Louisville authorities for skill in surgery and general practice. Consultation available at the Allen House after Monday. Sold In Advance reports Mr A W Smith of the Bank of Southwestern Georgia sold one acre of Ruby Gold watermelon seed for 750 dollars and all other seed at the same ratio. Smith’s experimental farm lies within Americus limits. Died Mrs Susan Johnson mother of Mrs Goodman and Mr H C Johnson died at Mr A Garner’s residence on Prince Street from typho malaria fever with old age, aged sixty seven. Funeral conducted by Rev Branch at Mr Garner’s residence then buried at Oak Grove cemetery.
At a called session the county commissioners appointed Mensra M L Lackey W M Tillman and Neil S Ray to serve as Lith district road commissioners this term. They have previously served with general satisfaction. Speer sold the remainder of his McCrary property west of the city to Judge A C Speer, including a pear orchard of three hundred fifty trees on the quincunx plan. The city area is rapidly developing and Henry Smaw and Edgar Guerry have built residences near Judge Speer’s former home.
The County Commissioners sealed a contract with M. B. Hunter of San Francisco for a 30 by 80 foot artificial stone sidewalk in front of the new courthouse. Hunter promises the best sidewalk yet laid in Americus.
A boat operating between Montezuma and Warwick on the Flint River reportedly sank yesterday. No lives were lost, and the craft had been a thriving river trade vessel, transporting Montezuma merchants goods from Macon to Cordele via Georgia Southern and Florida, then B A M to Coney before reaching Montezuma.
Last night the Ealy and Brickens Combination offered a grand gift display at the Opera House on Jackson Street in front of G W Gover’s wholesale store. Prof Morphet wowed the audience with magic as the program impressed all. tonight promises another change with the same star lineup. Cheese specials at Gus Harris announce Swiss Limberger and Fancy Cream cheese. The show drew a packed house, with praise for Miss Nettle Peters, Jennie Pickett, Phil Peters, and the Whippler Twins. A first carload of mules shipped to Abbeville by N G and J K Prince marks Americus as a mule and horse hub. over 300 head sold this winter. Mr Mitchell is wished success as buyers continue.

Mr H A Strange of Ellaville, longtime treasurer of the Buenas Vista and Ellaville railroad, accepts a permanent post with the Central Railroad of Georgia. Prominent Abbeville residents deny a report that a local gentleman has three wives, calling it blackmail to extort money. The man has been married only once to his current wife, and friends vow action against the originator of the rumor.
