A local retailer promotes its Christmas gift selections as the most useful and desirable in the Americas. The ad claims standout attractions and specially tempting prices for the week to attract shoppers.
Mossy Dell notes show Christmas exercises shortened by sickness. Next term starts January 6 with urged patronage. Board housing offered at reasonable rates in Bottsford, Ga. Local items include measles in Davison children, Rosa Addy visiting, Derrick land sale, a loaded stump misfire, and Squire J H Carter moving to Terrell county after long service. LL.D.
From Putnam dec 24 a meeting was called in Wigginsville Alliance to decide a new meeting place. A Christmas tree at Hopewell was planned tonight. Miss Sue Sellars remains ill. Rumors of a secret marriage persist. Hogs shown at Americus impressed, with Chapmans large pen. Glenn Holley school term closed with speeches by D W Rainey and I A McMichael. Wigginsville church completed and dedicated by Rev Anthony. Will Stevens recruits laborers for cotton plantations along the Mississippi Valley, paying travel expenses, fueling the exodus movement amid labor shortages.
In Lumpkin on December 20 residents reflect on pleasant winter weather and the citizen ticket’s aldermanic victory. Col Hawkins is praised for aiding regional communication via the 8 A.M. road. Visitors Messia Watt and E Battle of Columbus stop by, while Dr J C Patterson plans to move to Macon for practice. Richland prospers as local youths ride Texas ponies ahead of Christmas festivities.
In Richland two Black teenagers John and William Jordan were tried for burning the Colbert residence. John was released for lack of evidence while William Jordan was bound over. A witness described the suspect’s distinctive shoe track and face as he fled the burning home. William remains jailed in Lumpkin awaiting next term of Superior Court. The report also notes political commentary praising ex President Cleveland.
In Lumpkin, Prof. E A Keese is re elected principal of Lumpkin Stewart Academy for another year with two able assistants. The new term opens with a larger pupil enrollment expected. parents assured of instruction quality. Also noted are a local marriage, Dr J A Thornton's visit, and regional rail discrimination complaints among Atlanta Chattanooga and Birmingham lines.
