Local bills advance as branch colleges fight and Tech funds

ATLANTA December 18. The House and Senate read a large batch of local bills to prepare for passage this session. The Twitty bill was reconsidered with a tied vote broken by Governor Mitchell. Judge Allen Fort’s appointment was confirmed unanimously. The branch college plan was cut to five sites with strict tuition limits. The Tech appropriation remained at 22 500 dollars. The State Road study by the Western and Atlantic Committee proposes an eight member commission with limited dissent, needing governor and Supreme Court input. Judge Fort released Richard Howard and James Bickerstaff on 15,000 bonds. Robert Howard remains jailed with his bail denied.
