A War Relic Returned from Virginia Battlefield
The Charlotte Observer reports Tom Cooper of this county mailed a bullet-riddled Bible found on a Virginia battlefield to a New York woman. The bullet pierced the soldier’s heart, inscribed by J. C. Thurber. Cooper sought relatives, aided by the New York postmaster, and sent a full account with the relic. Also notes an ex Confederates’ rise in British Parliament, Colonel Burleigh, a former Stuart aide now elected in Glasgow.
