In Marion Illinois Joseph Herrington a coal miner opposed his wife Ruby's romance with fellow miner Robert Tate. Tate confessed to aiding the poisoning of Herrington with arsenic urging Ruby to finish the crime. He said he started it and she completed it and they planned the murder to wed.
Mrs Miriam A Ferguson won the first legal round in her bid to be kept off the Democratic gubernatorial ballot as Judge George C Calhoun refused an injunction. The ruling came in Austin in the 63rd district court.
