Youngstown Ohio September 29 The Republic Iron and Steel company announced the first curtailment of its steel operations due to car shortages, shutting down eight of its sixteen sheet mills today.
James A. Stillman former National City Bank president loses absolute divorce bid against Anne A. Stillman. Referee finds Guy Stillman legitimate. Mrs. Stillman gains full victory citing misconduct with Florence P. Leeds and two children. Bribery allegations and costly litigation noted. alimony and costs near $200,000.
Herbert Clay of Marietta announces candidacy for the unexpired United States Senate term after Watson’s death in Washington. Clay, former president of the state senate, plans to reveal his platform at the Macon convention next month and a special primary is planned to fill the vacancy. The state Democratic Executive Committee votes meet in Macon to organize the primary.
Autopsy on Eleanor Mills shows bullet wounds in the head and a severed throat. The examination notes the carotid and windpipe damaged, confirming brutal homicide details. Also reported is the opening of the Bank of Lumpkin in Lumpkin Georgia with officers listed and residents invited.
The Atlanta Bar association will pay formal tribute to the late Judge Benjamin H. Hit who died recently while serving on the Georgia Court of Appeals. Memorial exercises are set for Monday at 3 o'clock in the courthouse with state and court officials judges and bar members in attendance.
