In Leningrad Russia on September 27 the Associated Press reports a breakout of spotted typhus adding to the city’s flood misery. The disease, a highly dreaded contagious fever, is registering more than 100 new cases daily, with two to three weeks of prostration and red body eruptions typical of the outbreak.
Joseph M. Steele, president of the law enforcement league of Philadelphia, resigns after a telegram to President Coolidge alleging corruption among federal officeholders in Pennsylvania. The telegram says the league secretary has evidence and asks Coolidge to help address the matter.
Shanghai reports substantial advances claimed by the Lungwha military headquarters of the Chekiang armies defending the city. The Chekiang offensives followed the Kiating sector launch as Shanghai braces for further action.
A portion of the Dixie Dog and Pony Shows assets under labor liens and a bank action were sold by the sheriff. John Sheffield paid 430 dollars for Shetland ponies, goats, hogs and other items in front of the courthouse. Next Saturday more wagons, trucks, harness and tents will be sold by Sheriff Harvey.
BISBEE Ariz Sept 27 Two men are said to have been killed in an explosion at the Curtis plant of the Apache powder plant near Benson late this afternoon according to meager information reaching here The cause of the blast and the identity of the men have not yet been learned.
Giant Zeppelin Z R 3 plans a Trans Atlantic trip to Lakehurst New Jersey starting October 5 or 6 if Atlantic weather cooperates. Dr Hugo Eckner announces. US Navy will deploy three vessels at Atlantic points to relay weather data and aid if needed.
Boston Sept. 27 Tom Taggart former Indiana senator and national Democratic politician was operated on for appendicitis here today. His condition is reported as satisfactory and he has been ill for several days.
The Argentine world flyer Major Zeanni arrived in Hong Kong from Hong Kong and planned a stopover before continuing to Shanghai. He hopped off earlier today and will pause here en route.
The trial of E. E. D. Bigham for the murder of his brother L. Smiley Bigham ended abruptly when prosecution witness George J. Steele collapsed and died while testifying. The proceedings paused as officials announced the fatality and adjourned for the day.
New York police arrested John Feinstein a 24 year old chauffeur and said he may be one of four men who robbed Miss Edith Bobe of 25000 in jewels on September 15 and assaulted her escort Robert Hague marine superintendent of Standard Oil in the hallway of the Bobe apartment authorities declined to release further details.

The Sons of Italy push for a counter parade during their jubilee, while Sheriff Stephens warns no demonstration will occur and vows to back orders with deputies and machine guns if needed.
The First church hosted a week long Methodist Training School ending Friday night with Eight receiving full certificates and twenty earning office credits. Examinations will be sent to Nashville for official certificates, and a second training school was unanimously approved for next year in Americus.
