A midnight blaze at Jesse Salter’s farm west of American consumes his corncribs barn and belongings. He saved his mules as the roof collapsed. Loss estimated at 1000 to 1200 dollars with no insurance. Salter suspects incendiary origin but finds no definite culprit.
City Council refused to reconsider the Dodson contract forfeiture resolution. Aldermen debated allowing a forfeit of 5000 dollars by October 8 to ensure completion of the street railway and power plant by April 1, with the project saved from extinction if the terms are met.
Americus grocers stock cans of peaches labeled made in Americus. About one and a half million pounds were canned locally in July and August using Elberta peaches. Prices range from ten to twenty cents per can, with 3 pound pie peaches at ten cents and larger cans at higher rates.

Central of Georgia announces a new Chicago to Jacksonville train via Americus and Albany with initial run slated for October 18. Through sleepers will operate Chicago to Jacksonville, linking with Birmingham and the West and offering fast connections to Florida. The southbound schedule departs Columbus at 10 pm and reaches Jacksonville next morning. return trips depart Jacksonville at 8 pm and arrive Chicago the same evening.
