The Floridan Dixie Limited Dixie Express Dixie Flyer and Southland will run six all steel tourist trains daily between Middle Western points and Florida with Americus as a regular stop. The Floridan will debut December 2 for southbound and December 4 for northbound, Chicago St. Louis and Miami service with valet and maid service. Dixie Limited's first southbound through Americus is December 2 and northbound December 3, running Chicago St. Louis Chattanooga to Miami with full steel equipment. Continued on Page Three.
Washington September 24 Prohibition Commissioner Haynes said Rep John Philip Will of Baltimore violated prohibition laws by making cider with 275 percent alcoholic strength challenging prosecutors to act The controversy involves Hill who hosted a cider party for about 1000 guests and invited action to force Haynes to testify about 2 75 per cent beer and justify his stance district officials prepared to pursue a definite course of action in coordination with the department of justice
Braxton Beacham, who served as Florida’s war time food administrator, died at his Orlando home this morning after months of illness. The longtime public official had been a key figure in state wartime food programs.
In Austin on September 24 the court heard statements alleged to be written by Miriam A Ferguson and James E Ferguson. The plaintiff Dickson seeks an injunction to disqualify Miriam Ferguson from governor, claiming the Fergusons planned a joint rule with Jim Ferguson as real governor.
State Board of Education approved allotments for Sumter County schools under the Barrett-Rogers act for 1924. Plains and Union high schools receive 590 dollars each, Andersonville consolidated and Nunn Industrial School 500 dollars each, with Sumter County receiving 1,827.87 dollars from a 250,000 dollar statewide additional appropriation.
New York September 24 The Democratic nominee declares the need to condemn rather than condone public trust corruption under the Republican regime. He reiterates his campaign statements about Harry M and Daugherty as direct and specific, denying any withdrawal of statements. City leaders re opened the bond election to replace long term bonds with serial bonds for 100000 in street and waterworks financing. The plan retires bonds faster and reduces sinking fund reliance while cutting interest costs. Council consulted Bank of Commerce and other officials before approving the change.
