Regular correspondent from Preston, Ga recounts church and mission activities in the region, plus social visits. Among the highlights are remarks by Rev E Bailey, reports on the Ladies Mission Society, and arrivals and departures of residents visiting Americus, Macon, and Columbus.
Leslie Sept 21 The Phila thwas will entertain the Baracas Friday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lucius Harvey. Frank Wilson Jr left Sunday for Oxford where he will attend Emory college. Mrs Bradey and family returned home after summer with relatives here. Quite a number from Leslie attended the funeral of Cleve Hill in Americus Sunday. Mr and Mrs C B Johnson their children and Miss Mary Harvey of Ellaville spent Sunday with Mr and Mrs L Harvey. Miss Martha Wilson formerly in Sycamore will return home Saturday. Mrs Long and Mrs Rhodes of Smithville were guests of Mrs W My Laramore this week. Mr and Mrs J J Wilson were Tealle yesterday. Mr Will Wiggins toured our town yesterday morning. Miss Georgia Renew of Americus spent Sunday here with Miss Emma Wiggins. Oliver of Springdale spent the weekend with Miss Susie May Yarborough.
Regular correspondent reports a Thursday evening entertainment hosted by Mr and Mrs Charles Willis honoring nieces Lois Hammock Nannie Willis of Sylvester and others. Also noted are family visits and a missing five year old black mare mule 16 hands 1100 pounds strayed September 20 with a federal reward for information.
From Our Regular Correspondent Pains Georgia September 21. Mr and Mrs Charlie Alston hosted guests including Mrs George Montgomery Ed Mathews of Americus and Miss Alice Boyd of Elba Alabama. Local residents J A McDonald Reese Andrews E R Stewart attended Concord meeting. Several visitors from Birmingham Johnson City Seattle Sumter and Ellaville are noted along with travel to Birmingham.
Prom Our Regular Correspondent reports on H J Israel of Newnan visiting his mother Mrs J G Israel. Rev Mabry of Richland preached at Hebron. M T Tagormon of Quitman visited, Mrs W G of Americus spent days with Mrs G W Wiggins, and W S Edge of Sumter with Mrs J G Israel. Baptist church improvements began and Miss Antle Lane began illness in Americus.
W E Brown and W C Sullivan of Americus Georgia advertise bright and clean oats from barley cheat rye and wheat seed for sale in Sumter County. The ad boasts a corn yield of 183 bushels per acre and claims Sumter holds the belt against rivals.
Miss Laura Yarbrough visits sister Mrs J L Wells in Cuthbert while various residents travel and guests arrive in Lee County. Fire destroys a tenant house near Americus, incendiary origin suspected. Howell McAfee dies at Smithville after long illness. services held at noon with Emmett and Mamara McAfee surviving.

Perry Cannon Clyde and Johnie Griffin attended preaching at Pleasant Grove near Huntington. Mrs W M Clementy and daughter Irma visited Americus. Mr W M Cannon attends court. Mr and Mrs L G Methvin mourn loss of baby girl.
Cut Off Georgia September 23 protracted services at St Johns Lather church ended week long with fine sermons by Rev Charles Phil Ups of Plains. Mentions of local residents and visits to family near Montezuma, Pennington house guests, and a Bedingfield Puzzle contest promoting prizes while noting a dubious whiskey ad claim in Jacksonville.
In Cleveland on September 20, Judge Le vine warned Mrs Julia Kneabeck she will be arrested for cruelty if her son Edward weighs under 150 pounds. Previously the boy, age 19, was weighed at 120 pounds and then 154 pounds after court orders. Witnesses testified he was starved, and the judge released him to a friend pending his welfare and ordered plentiful food.
Columbus Ohio, September 17. Mrs. A D Winship aged 80 and former Racine Wisconsin resident now living in Columbus registered today as a student at Ohio State University. She will take an optional course and attend college for knowledge. Winship recently returned from Michigan.
Gov elect Hoke Smith is invited to address Whitield County Farmers Association in Dalton Georgia on October 11 with W M Sapp as inviting committee head. Congressman Go Lee also planned as guest for the event.
Mrs. F. E. Simmons died Thursday at her daughter’s home in DeSoto after a long residence there. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon at Oakgrove Cemetery with burial by Dr Burrows of the First Baptist church. A large number from DeSoto and Americus attended to pay tribute to a beloved woman.
BRONWOOD GA regular column notes a local ice cream supper hosted by Mr Jim Hall Sr enjoyed by the social set. Visits include Mr and Mrs C J Canton Americus weekend with Turner Watson Meg Benton Watson relatives. Mr and Mrs P T Myerette spent Sunday with daughter Mrs Jy Turner. Frank Eden is ill and hoped to recover soon.
Ebby Shepard, a 16 year old from Newkirk Oklahoma, confessed to killing two men with an axe after claiming she was whipped. County officials and Sheriff Rader reported the murder occurred Friday morning at the home of J. W. Taylor and brother Tregor. She had been described as feeble minded.
