Americus endured a severe flood with nine inches of rain in ten hours. Bridges, mills and cotton fields suffered extensive damage valued near fifty thousand dollars, with potential six figure losses. Bishop Henry Benjamin Whipple of the Protestant Episcopal Church in Minnesota died at his Faribault home after a period of illness. He was born February 15, 1832, ordained in 1850, served as Minnesota bishop since 1859, and was the senior bishop of the Protestant Church in America. A later item notes a street car workers union meeting in Mose with ten members.
