Almost a Bad Blaze at Wheatley Barn

Firefighters saved Mr. George D. Wheatley s barn and likely his residence when two young children used a lighted candle to burn spider webs. The blaze burned briskly before the storm subsided and extinguished. Loss expected at twenty or thirty dollars. Cotton Bales Burned Near Lockett Plantation Fire

The Lockett plantation east of Americus suffered damage when a match set eight packed bales, cotton seed, and a nearby press house ablaze. Workers saved the packed cotton and the cotton house with water, though bagging burned and losses estimated at thirty to forty dollars.
