London Sept 19 The British cabinet declares Britain will undertake military actions needed to protect the Dardanelles if required. The government emphasizes it does not seek new war while preparing for possible incidents and a forthcoming conference on the Turkish question.
On September 15 the Southeastern Underwriters Association advised Fort that Americus will receive a full first class fire insurance rating. The change cuts 10 cents from the basis rate on brick mercantile buildings and stock in these structures, with a similar reduction on frame mercantile buildings. The tariff adjustments reflect corrections in the fire department supply and are not a result of city actions. A broader re-rating aims to reduce frame shingle pool dwellings from B to C, pursued by a united effort of residents to lower rates.

The puré bred sow sale at Hawkins farm attracted Sumter county farmers with 30 of 35 sows sold to local buyers. Prices reached up to 110 dollars each and the sale netted about 2200 dollars.
Largest single market in Waycross curb market history ends the week with thirty to forty wagons loaded with produce lining the curb at city hall at 8:30 Saturday morning. The market’s first year results are expected to heavily influence farmers in Slanting Jarger acreage next season.

Southern railway shopmen prepared to return to work under an agreement signed by railway and union officials in Columbia South Carolina. The statement says strikers will be restored within 30 days with the exception of violent offenders and wages set by the railway wage board.
Charlotte strikers fail to return to work as E. L. Barkley of the local union cites a hitch to be cleared before men resume duties. The stalemate mirrors a similar stand among 1700 shopmen at Spencer.
Chicago September 19 reports progress toward settling the railway shopmen strike under the Baltimore peace arrangement. Differences delaying agreement on some roads were reduced as misunderstandings were adjusted.

In Columbus on September 19, Ohio voters will decide at the November election on a state constitutional amendment to legalize the manufacture and sale of wine and beer. The state Supreme court ordered Secretary of State Smith to place the proposal on the ballot in a mandamus action brought by the pro amendment association after the secretary refused to certify it for a vote.
The South Carolina state labor federation adopted a resolution at its annual convention in Columbia urging Congress to restrict the federal judiciary. It charged judges with usurping powers not contemplated by the founders.
General John J. Pershing has accepted an invitation to visit the North Carolina state fair on October 18, designated as Military Day. The announcement was made today in Raleigh North Carolina.

New Brunswick reports three days into the Hall and Mills killings as authorities express confidence a solution will come. A mysterious telephone call lured Rev Edward H Hall and Mrs Eleanor Mills to the church. both were found shot near the country farm. Mrs Hall admitted being the suspicious woman seen at their residence. Mills also visited the church seeking his wife. Detectives hunt for a pistol and a killer as arrests are anticipated within 24 hours.
Capt W P Dodds medical officer at Souther Field departed for his home in Pittsburg after several days traveling with friends in McRae.
In Jackson California Fort seven miners died in the Argo Naut mine after an August 27 fire. Bodies found behind a bulkhead four thousand feet down, all believed dead within five hours of the blaze. A note on a body read 3 a.m. and a mark of 4 suggesting later messages. Identification impossible due to decomposition. Byron Pickard led the rescue.
Jackson California September 19.2 Associated Press reports the first of 47 Argonaut mine disaster victims were brought to the surface at Kennedy mine. Government engineers led the rescue team entering the tunnel at eight oclock to recover the remains.
In Atlanta on September 19, Harry T. Moore traffic manager of the Atlanta Freight Bureau testified before the Interstate Commerce Commission. He claimed that shippers seeking a uniform class rate on a mileage scale would raise rates for North Carolina and Georgia, slightly lower South Carolina, and largely preserve Alabama levels.
The Americus market closed with spot cotton in strict middling at 21 cents per pound, up 15 points from the prior session. Trade notes reflect a firmer tone and buyers showing moderate demand amid steady export interest.
Liverpool Sept 19 market opened steady 15 to 21 points higher. Quotations at 13.28, sales 6000 bales, receipts 12,246 bales with 11,838 American. Futures show Oct 12.02, Jan 41.84, March 11.69. Additional figures are cut or unclear.
