Loxpon Sept 14 Walter Wellman leader of the Wellman polar expedition has undergone the first surgical operation to straighten his injured right leg after a fall into a snow crevasse during the Franz Josef Land exploration. A second operation is planned but surgeons expect to save the leg and say he can return to America in three weeks. He will give an address Tuesday describing his recent expedition.
