Thousands Throng Americus for Grand Street Carnival

Americus swarmed with visitors for the city’s first big street carnival and trades display. The Fitzgerald Military Band led a dawn parade, followed by a lavish floats pageant, a central plaza program, and a string of concerts and masked balls, drawing an estimated 6 000 to 8 000 people and showcasing local merchants and civic pride.

Vanderbilts’ Patriarch Cornelius Dies in New York Home

Cornelius Vanderbilt died at 5:15 AM at his Fifty-seventh Street Fifth Avenue residence after a paralytic stroke. Attendants and physicians, including Dr. James and Dr. Janeway, failed to save him. He leaves wife, daughter Gladys, and Reginald, with Elated grief at the news. Colonel McMaster also dies in North Carolina.
