Fire hits Church and Moseley storehouse in Sunday blaze

At 4 30 a m a store on the corner of Church and Moseley streets burned, likely the work of an incendiary. Barnett, a Black trader with $500 coverage, owned goods inside the store. The blaze damaged a nearby Chapman cottage, uninsurd, and threatened nearby homes. Fire companies Wide Awake 1 Wheatley 2 Vigilance 3 Protection battled flames, keeping adjoining buildings damp.

Sumter County lowers tax rate to .00050 for 1892

Sumter County commissioners set the state and county rate at .00050 on the 1,000, a 60 cent cut from last year.
