Mitchell Ga September 3 badly decomposed body of a woman found floating in the Ogechee river near here early today. The corpse had two weights tied to it and is believed murdered. Found by two farmers at a river bend. The woman appears about 23, bobbed hair and wearing attire may help identify her.
Sylvania Sept 3 premium books for Screven county fair to be held October 14 to 18 have been printed. A new building on the fair grounds will display negro planters. Highlights include Boy's club work under County Agent D F Bruce and Girls' club work led by Miss Frances Hines, home demonstration agent.

American army air service world flyers left Hawkes Bay Newfoundland at 10 12 AM EST. They aim for Pictou Nova Scotia port as weather remained unfavorable with low clouds. At noon EST the airmen crossed 100 miles from Hawkes Bay over the cruiser Milwaukee.
In Herrin Illinois Sheriff George Galligan and Deputy Ora Thomas were accused of firing the first shots in Saturday's clash with Ku Klux Klan members. Dave Sisk testified the sheriff and deputy killed Chester Reid, an innocent bystander, during the melee. Galligan responded to ministerial pressure by naming four Protestant ministers who could restore order if they stopped preaching against law enforcement. The Klan killed Deputy Bud Allison in Williamson county Saturday, with Galligan and Thomas denying any shot was fired by them or others.
Fire Chief McArthur put the damage at 150 dollars after a blaze at the Oliver Mattress factory, a small frame building on Feldec street away from Americus business district.
Paris reports Seymour Parker Gilbert Jr once U S treasury under secretary accepted appointment as general for reparations under the Dawes plan. Owen D Young currently fills post, directing plan. first payment of 20 million gold marks, about 5 billion, was deposited in Berlin Reichsbank to credit the agent general.
In Brooklands England on September 8 Dario Resta renowned auto racer was killed while attempting to set a new world speed record. The incident ends a celebrated career marked by speed and danger with Resta dying at the track.
Secretary Hughes earned photographers goodwill in Paris by posing on arrival departure and in public appearances. Journalists, including still operators, tracked his moves except for a secret tomb visit to the Unknown Soldier under the Arc de Triomphe. He was the first visiting statesman to pay the tribute without any prior notice.
At Hwangtu near Shanghai fighting erupts between rival provincial governors’ forces. By 4 pm the battle lines push toward the coast and Woo Sung as instability spreads. The U.S. state department says hostilities began at 10 am with a readiness to land allied forces if needed. French authorities have warned of naval landings from French warships at 5 pm.

Jacksonville police officer W. J. Kely died from a bullet wound sustained when he was shot by a Black gunman on Monday, the fatal injury leading to his death today in Florida.
Mrs Nora Bellew of Elberton Georgia was arrested in Greenwood South Carolina on a charge of kidnapping 15 year old Louise Moore. Bellew says the girl accompanied her of her own free will and that no basis exists for the charge. Authorities say the arrest followed orders from Elberton Chief of Police Irvin.
Americus Masons of Wells Chapter No. 42 have moved into the new W. E. Mitchell Masonic Temple at Forsyth street and Cotton avenue. The former Planters Bank quarters were vacated August 31 after lease termination. The donor’s gift prompted interior renovations costing about 5000 dollars and a planned formal housewarming inviting nearby lodges.
In Austin on September 3 the Democratic state convention adopted a platform drawn by former Governor Jim Ferguson calling for lower taxes and greater economy in government. The platform denounces the Ku Klux Klan, pledges full recognition of Miriam A. Ferguson as the gubernatorial nominee, and asserts anti-Klan unity as Bailey and other leaders steer the meeting toward reform. Klan delegates were ousted from all committees as anti-Klan sentiment dominated proceedings in the bitter Dallas County committee fight.
Detectives in Binghamton New York investigate reports that Dr Marshall J Thompson thirty of Mobile Alabama reported drowned in Silver Lake near here He was last seen in California His canoe and hat were found adrift in Silver Lake in July but his body was not recovered His home is Mobile where he practiced medicine.
Atlanta news reports the city council split 13 to 11 and referred the water rate question to the finance committee after a bid to raise the minimum water charge failed. Councilman Harry York led the irreconcilables opposing the current rate and proposed boosting the minimum to 700 cubic feet, setting the minimum at $1 with backing from Councilman John A. White.
Americus and nearby Prospect Heights and East Americus schools will start Monday September 13 under Superintendent J E Mathis. Expecting higher attendance, Furlow Grammar may face crowding. Rees Park High adds Miss Geraldine Goodroe as English assistant, while staff changes include Mrs Steings taking vacation and Mrs Martha Cobb resigning.
Columbus bank clearings for August totaled 3,894,430.47 with an increase of 701,518.84 from August 1923’s 3,192,911.63, per W. R. Luttrell, secretary of the Columbus Clearing House Association. July clearings reached 3,596,774.69 versus 3,242,244.85 a year earlier.
