Whitecapping sentences in Gilmer County chain gang case

In Gilmer County Superior Court two whitecappers who whipped Bill Nails in 1891 were sentenced to the chain. Bill Wilson and Gober plead guilty. A March 24, 1891 mob crossed from Marrowey County into Gilmer, tied Nails to a tree and beat him.

The Range Returns From Central American Cruise

The cruiser Ranger returns from the central and south American coast to Mare Island to receive crew for 400 sailors. Dispute Turns Fatal on Georgia Farm

In Cuthbert near Curmmnt Arthur Hood’s farm, John Jackson and George Rawson, both Black men, quarreled over a trivial matter. Jackson seized a hoe in anger and fatally harmed Rawson as he fled, near a wire fence. Two witnesses described the escalation and pursuit as Rawson tried to escape.
