Chinese forces around Shanhaikwan wage the fiercest fighting yet as Manchurian invaders clash with Peking government troops. Observers say the outcome could decide control of the Central Chinese government, with both sides showing intense resolve and no clear advantage.
Shanhaikwan suffers heavy damage from Manchurian bombardment as government troops mass to retake Shihimenkai. Railway station defenses held by Chihli forces while three Japanese destroyers reach Chinwangtao. Foreign commandants to meet on coal supply and escort if shortages rise. Reports cite friction between Japanese police and Chihli troops amid battles for the city.
Tremendous casualties were caused in fighting around Shanhaiwan through the use of subterranean mines by Central Chinese government forces. No casualty estimates were yet available for the past few days of combat. The mines, scattered through the district, played a key role in the desperate fight preceding the city’s capture.

Ollie Marcum of Dallas Texas received 18 months in a designated federal prison for violating the motor vehicle theft act. Harvey S. Bradley, aka H. S. Beard, from Dallas and Dallas based, got two years at the Atlanta federal prison.
The Times Recorder published a circus contest page last Wednesday drawing 107 entries. Contestants colored nine circus animals and many even colored the Main Tent. Judges noted superb detail and the value of advertising space, with winners listed on another page.
Turner County gears up for a three day fair starting October 23 with plans solidified by the committee. Violet Dickerson, 19, mother of one, is acquitted of the murder of Louis Hirsch, a storekeeper. Oeffinger, tried separately, was convicted of first degree murder with the death penalty. his appeal awaits Supreme Court review. Both defendants had accused each other of firing the fatal shot.
A small crowd saw two knockouts in a Legion bout at the armory last night. Dick White endured a brutal exchange as Ben Spivey unleashed a right chin blow and a left midsection shot in the second round of a scheduled ten round contest. Young Cline, a welterweight, connected for a notable punch before the report continued on page five.
A woman aged 36 Mrs. Léon Bragg a 9 year old girl Mable Smith and Bragg's two month old baby were killed when struck by a heavy truck near Wesley New York last night. The truck could not be identified.
Funeral services for James M Weeks will be held Sunday morning at 10 o'clock from the residence at 714 Jefferson Street with Rev Milo H Massey pastor of the Central Baptist church officiating. Mr Weeks died Friday morning after an illness of several months. He was greatly beloved by a wide circle of friends formed during his twenty five years in Americus. On August 9 last Mr Weeks with Mrs Weeks celebrated their golden wedding anniversary which occasion as friends
