Wreck of the Bark Archus in Typhoon Claims All Aboard

In a typhoon the Archus of New Chwang was wrecked at Nasgaski harbor with all hands lost. The crew were Chinese except for European captain and officers. Fourteen escaped Russian railway convicts killed three farm residents for clothes. a French officer and a Russian band master were killed. None of the convicts recaptured at latest report.

Gypsy Chief's Son Dies in Dayton Funeral Planned

Henry Harrison son of Gypsy chief Isandé Harrison died in a Dayton boarding house after typhoid fever. Tribesmen plan a spring funeral near Dayton with the young man’s furniture wagon and possessions placed in a tomb per custom. The report also notes local fire deaths and several unrelated incidents and meetings from Oct 14.

Consecration of Rev. Dr. Philip Brooks as Bishop of Massachusetts

The consecration at Trinity Church marked a historic Episcopal ceremony with Bishop John Williams presiding. Rev. Arthur and Rev. John Colton Brooks attended. Brooks faced opposition before election. Brooks, born in Boston in 1836, rose from Harvard to lead Trinity Church and is famed for his rapid pulpit delivery and Low Church views.
