A Times Recorder census shows 888 bales entered Sumter warehouses in four days, raising the season total to 24 725 bales. Reports span three local warehouses plus two each at Leslie and Plains. Futures edged up with local market at 20 cents for strict middling.
Washington October 14 The Census Bureau reports September cotton consumption at 83 266 bales of lint and 70 008 linters. This compares with 448 665 lint and 63 583 linters in August and with 438 373 lint and 50 781 linters in September of last year. The figures were released by the Census Bureau, department of agriculture.
Lexington Ga October 14 Judge Phil W Davis leading lawyer and farmer and longtime Georgia legislator died suddenly at home He earlier served as a Baptist minister before turning to law and gaining statewide prominence He represented Oglethorpe County in the legislature and was regarded as an outstanding Georgia jurist.
Three Americas board of aldermen seats expiring will be filled at the white primary on November 17. The city democratic executive committee fixed the date and set polls at city hall from 7 am to 6 pm. Registrations open for white citizens meeting six month residency and 1924 tax payment with an $20 entrance fee due by October 31.
A. S. Wagner, jewelry salesman for I Press and Sons of Philadelphia, was arrested in Orlando on a warrant from Abraham Press for embezzling $382. He was placed in Orange County jail and did not post the $1,250 bond.
Agreement reached to postpone hearings on the Nickle Plate merger before the Interstate Commerce Commission. Commissioner Myers allowed the delay as witnesses could not attend before the new date.
Sylvester Ga Oct 14 Worth County commissioners adopt a resolution to allow one dollar per bushel for corn to be applied on state county and school taxes and may buy about three thousand bushels. The county has sold mules and now uses tractors and free labor, deemed more economical than mules and convicts.
Senator J Thomas Heflin of Alabama says Congress will be asked to investigate the government cotton crop reporting board and the census bureau. He disclosed the plan in a statement issued in Charlotte North Carolina on October 13.
H. T. Saliba will lead the regular Wednesday evening prayer meeting at First Methodist Church. He has traveled widely and will present an interesting program. After tonight the weekly services start at seven o'clock. The public is invited to attend all services.

Dwight F. Davis of Missouri today took oath as secretary of war. Chief Justice Taft administered the oath with John W. Weeks observing. Major General Hines and other War Department officials witnessed the ceremony.
Americus A and M. football team is scheduled to play Cochran A and M. Friday at 3:30 PM at Aggie field. Cochran is said to have a strong squad, promising one of the season’s toughest tests for Americus. Admission to the grounds is 25 and 50 cents.
More than 200 men and boys are expected to attend a fellowship banquet Thursday night in the First Baptist church lecture room. Americus resident Hollis Fort and Cordele’s W. L. Roebuck are the guest speakers, announced by Rev. Joe M. Branch. All church members, friends, and others are invited.

In Pittsburg on Oct 14 the seventh game of the 1925 World Series was postponed by Commissioner Landis after a delay. Smoke Johnson was ready to pitch for the Senators, while Pirates manager McKechnie undecided on his starter. Johnson was expected to face Vic Aldridge, who beat the Senators previously, as Pirates fans anticipate victory and the 1925 title.

A. M. Rowell, 32, charged with murder of Fred Lightsey, a former Savannah and Doctortown man, surrendered to authorities after saying the killing happened during drinking. He left Florida after the Aug. 31 slaying and said the truth would come out at trial. A preliminary hearing was expected before Judge Thomas on Monday.
