Charles Stewart Parnell died at Walsington Terrace Brighton at 11:80 on Friday after a chill and acute rheumatism. News sparked crowds outside offices as physicians battled to save him. Born in 1840 at Avondale Wicklow, he rose as a prominent Irish leader amid political battles with Gladstone and the Times.
In WasniSetox the second ecumenical Methodist council met at the Metropolitan Methodist Episcopal church with about 500 delegates and large spectator attendance. The event ends with the engine colliding into a hand car, killing the foreman and severely injuring others.
Patrolman Powell arrested Ernest Jarvis a young deserter from the United States army. He gave the name Victor De Braumont and was born in England later moving with his parents to Cleveland Ohio. He deserted from Fort Florida in 1887 and then from Fort Adams in Newport Rhode Island last winter.
A committee from the Atlanta Zouaves denounces a published report that Captain J. B. Hollis plans to resign. They fought the article as a fabrication, noting previous resolutions expressing confidence in him and stating no committee had investigated or reported on the matter. The captain, urged to resign, did so temporarily but remained in command amid company appeals.
In Atlanta on October 1 a young man named Jobo Anderson from Wilmington North Carolina was jailed after a drinking spree. He had been at the Keely Institute to quit alcohol, left on Saturday, relapsed, drank hard on Sunday and Monday, and was arrested last night with sobbing pleas for pity as he sits in a cell. He is expected to be returned home today.
Tomorrow marks the leaving of Whitfield's bill to broaden the Insurance pool in Georgia. Insurance men deem the measure unjust and doubt the legislature will grasp its effect, while Whitfield and supporters remain confident the roll call will show the bill has passed.
In Valparales New York October 7 the Yorktown will sail at noon today for Valparalan after Washington special orders delivered at the Brooklyn navy yard. The Charleston World Surpends Crrancuaroy notes the notice and reports the World Budget Company pending publication for its weekly and Sunday editions. The World began publishing four years ago.
