A London Herald dispatch reports a prominent American diplomat saying the United States has not sent any ultimatum to Spain. He notes U S willingness to help end the deteriorating stalemate and confirms no advance pledge has been made by Washington.
In Havana on September 23 it was announced that two insurgent officers and two armed cavalrymen under Trellez surrendered to Spanish authorities at Yuaguaramas in Santa Clara province. Trellez was reportedly killed the prior night by three followers. Spanish Colonel Munoz led a scouting column along the north Havana coast and seized six boxes of ammunition and twelve rifle lots from a filibustering expedition nearby.
A petition for injunction against the Southern Railway was argued before Judge Newman. Bluthenthal & Bickart, whisky dealers of Atlanta, seek to force freight handling in South Carolina.
