The mine sweeper Redwing with about 60 men is under guard at the Hampton Roads submarine base after the discovery and removal of large quantities of liquor including Club whisky brandies cognac and Cuban rum. Admiral Andrews ordered an inquiry.
Americas Kiwanis luncheon at Windsor featured complimentary Jasper Cheek Georgia cane syrup bottles placed at each plate from Edwards Grocery. The group formed committees to promote Dixie Highway signage, establish a tourist camp ground, and consider Lions Club grade crossing safety. A nominating committee was set for December officer elections.
Jim Webb of Richland was promoted to regional manager for Arbuckle Coffee Co covering Georgia and Alabama with headquarters in Richland. He has several years with the company and earned a New York trip this fall for high sales, aiming for another trip next year. Webb is the son of Mr and Mrs Sapp Webb, raised in Richland.
Riclhand reports Leon Strickland son of Mr and Mrs Strickland was seriously injured on the school campus last week by a baseball bat. He is now reported to be doing nicely with prospects for recovery. The eye socket was crushed and pieces removed, a gash near the eye had threatened sight. His mother remained at his side as doctors treated him at home.
Friday's session drew record crowds as the South Georgia Conference met in Tifton from 7 a.m. to past 9 p.m. Delegates elected to the General Conference in Hot Springs include T. D. The conference opposed inter-collegiate athletics in church schools. Bishop Candler urged charity support for Wesley Memorial Hospital. A report denied a slander about Bishop Candler. New missions were created at Smithville Stillmore Washington Alamo Altamaha Surrency Sardis Jakin and Moultrie.
Andersonville edged Pleasant Grove 11 to 4 in a recent game. Standout performers were Johnson Holloway and Aycock for Andersonville, as Coach Lanier rotated substitutes and emphasized defense over scoring.
C G Brown, long based in Americus with Seaboard, is moved back to Richland to resume his former Seaboard post. Scarboro, working here, is sent to Vidalia. Mrs Brown and the children plan to return to Richland around early December.
In St Louis four armed bandits raided the St Louis Refining company office and escaped with diamonds and jewels valued at 60000 by company officials. In Chelsea Massachusetts four men held up an automobile from the First National Bank of Boston and stole payroll funds totaling 20000 after a volley of about twenty shots with pursuers.
In Richland on November 26 the Senior Sophomore society staged a mock faculty event at a meeting attended by most students and several town residents. Marie Norris presided as master of ceremonies with a full cast impersonating teachers and staff, amusingly convincing some real faculty by their doppelganger acts.
Fort Gaines residents report natural gas seeping from the Chattahoochee river banks on both sides of the Georgia Alabama border. Tests indicate high grade heating gas and preparations will begin for drilling on both sides.
Richland Negro community notes Mrs nie Bridges a pioneer actress will celebrate her ninety second birthday Sunday. She now resides with daughter Mrs Posie Mae Holloman and friends extend congratulations and best wishes for a happy declining year.
Washington November 26 The Washington conference progresses with navy experts near completing the Amer ican armament reduction plan and talks hint at another plenary session for Japan and Great Britain to submit counter proposals. A principle agreement on gradual abolition of extraterritorial rights in China is reached and studies of the Chinese judicial system are planned. President Harding privately suggests a continuing series of international conferences that could lead to an association of nations with annual meetings to address world peace and include nonparticipants like Germany and Russia in the orbit of the talks. The aim is wider recognition of the conference plan and broader participation in discussions affecting global relations.
The first carload of hogs for the season was loaded here midweek by Coffin Bros. and shipped to the Moul trie packing house. Prices stood at a 6 cent basis for better grades. Farmers expect to realize thousands of dollars from ongoing shipments through fall and winter.
Springfield November 26 Suits filed against five former Illinois state treasurers by Attorney General Brundage cover six terms before Edward Miller era. Defendants include Governor Len Small Lieutenant Governor Fred Sterling plus William Ryan Jr Edward E Mitchell bondsmen named in all suits. State Auditor Andrew Russell is defendant in two suits.
Norman Institute defeated Tifton A. and M. school 12 to 0 before a huge crowd at Norman Park on Thursday afternoon. The stubbornly contested game featured thrilling moments and lively rooter antics despite unusually hot November weather.
A blaze starting at 1 45 am in the Johnson building devastated Broad Street in Augusta. It consumed the Albion hotel, the Harrison building, and the J B White store area, causing millions in losses and the Chronicle newspaper plant to burn completely. no lives lost, one firefighter injured.

Lacey A. Morgan formerly of Americus and Dave Carter drove from Fort Meade Florida to Americus Georgia in a new Ford. They carried oranges and grapefruit in the back and planned to distribute fruit to friends. They arrived about 7 PM to dine with Mr and Mrs W. C. Carter and Morgan planned to visit Macon and start fruit shipments upon returning home.
Elaborate preparations are under way by the Negro citizens of Americus for the annual meeting of the Improved Order of Samaritans to convene Monday at Campbell's Chapel. The Georgia product headquartered at Athens is led by Dr. W. H. Harris founder and grand secretary and Prof. T. K. Persley of Macon as grand chief, with the order grown to about 700 lodges in thirty years.
The Hortense Tinsley Missionary society will meet Monday at 3 PM in First Methodist church for an engaging program. Mrs. H O Jones has prepared two fine programs for First Baptist church services, featuring anthem solos, choruses, and a double quartet. Attendees are invited. Visitors arrive as Dr. L F Grubbs heads to Tulane and Mrs Grubbs to Greensboro.
