Washington Nov 23 Congress was to adjourn tonight ending the extra session called by President Harding on April 12. The final tax bill step was to be taken by the Senate before nightfall under an unanimous consent agreement for a vote by 5 PM. After passage the bill would be sent to the President.
L Carl Medford arrives with family to assume plant management on Monday. Former Marietta local W H Benson bakery manager, he partners with Benson’s Mr. Benson from Athens in acquiring the Americus bakery. Medford plans gradual business development and possibly cake making on a larger scale after settling in. Mrs Medford is sister of Mrs Schneider. The family has moved into the W E Brown home with the Holstons.
Richland Nov 23 Lester Sheppard, senior football helper at coaching, was knocked unconscious by fullback John Parks during practice. He suffered a badly broken nose, was revived, treated by a physician, and remained in pain. Other injuries occurred but athletes typically return after recovery. Sheppard serves as manager at Richland Cotton Oil mill.
Ralston Cargill president of the Playground association has received an offer for an appearance in Americus during spring training next year. An exhibition game would feature a famed American League club and a strong National League club, both with renowned personnel. Proceeds would benefit the local Yeround fund, and Cargill seeks expressions from baseball officials on the proposal.
The finishing touches were put on the Aggie football team this afternoon by Ches Hatfield and Sullivan. The seventh tank corps team from Camp Benning, said to rank evenly with the Aggies, will visit for a 2:30 PM game at the Aggie campus. A crack contest is anticipated.
The D A R cake entered by Mrs W J Josey won first prize for layer cakes in a Mize Grocery contest. First prize in the leaf cake class went to Mrs W T Cottrell. Second prizes went to Mrs E J Eldridge and Mrs Lee Hansford. Proceeds from a 30 cake sale exceed $65 for the playground association. Judges included Mrs Arthur Rylander and Miss Jo McKay.

Washington November 23 The anti medical beer bill was signed today by the President. The measure closes a gap in prohibition laws exposed last March by Attorney General Palmer who ruled the Volstead act did not preclude beer prescribed as medicine Prohibition advocates in Congress moved quickly and the bill was enacted in a modified form as law today.
Secretary of Agriculture Henry Wallace told the American Farms Bureau Federation convention in Atlanta that farmers’ troubles are economic, not political, and will persist until farming is run on a strictly business basis. He urged the department to assist farmers on economic lines rather than production.
Valdosta dated November 23 reports property valued at 176000 owned by white residents and 52000 by colored residents appears on Valdosta city tax digest not on Lowndes county digest. The county tax collector traced the items in city records and then reallocated them to county, boosting tax collection.

The session aims to elect nine delegates to the national conference in St Louis next May where nine bishops will be chosen making the delegate selection highly significant for the Negroes.
Belfast reports a new fatality in factional rioting following the Ulster Parliament's assumption of governing powers. The death toll rises to at least thirteen as outbreaks spread early today across the city.
