Brunswick lumberman Everett Hearson was arrested by federal officers who suspect a higher figure in rum running. The seizure of a freight carload of whisky in Atlanta yards led to the arrest, following statements from two Black individuals held for days implicating Hearson, with more arrests expected soon.
The Fourth Baptist church deacons in Savannah affirm the innocence of Rev. F. H. Folmar after a Federal grand jury indicted him on moonshining charges linked to land in Bryan County. Folmar calls the accusation malicious and notes a former helper on his land who allegedly made statements against him.
Dog owners from across the state travel to Lee county for a field trial on Scratchins and Pryor plantations under Southwest Georgia Field Trial association auspices. Pr W B Oliver is president, Lucas Thiers secretary treasurer. Judges include Phil Essig of Atlanta and W L McElmurray of Waynesboro. Nine trophies await winners. lunches and a barbecue Tuesday. Trials begin Monday at 8 am with the puppy stake.
The first full hog car from Americus was shipped Friday by the county agent from the sale pens. The sale brought in 1500 dollars with hogs selling yesterday fetching three cents more per pound than last year. Mr. Marshall notes past three years saw limited profits for Sumter and neighboring counties hog raisers.
Sumter farmers anticipate strong hog markets this spring due to abundant corn local to the area and lower feeding costs. With high demand and favorable conditions, hogs ready for market could fetch ten cents a pound or more, aiding profits for enterprising farmers this season. Mr. Marshall notes another car of hogs will move from Americus next week.
In Americus the Blue and White roared to a 13 13 stalemate against the favored Albany Indians. Statham nicknamed Red Barron made a key 30 yard run, while the defense limited Albany ace Edge and Rouse. Hayes Arnold starred for Americus. postgame, students paraded with torches through town.
Washington observers debate how many faces will join or leave the Coolidge administration with Charles Evans Hughes possibly stepping toward the Supreme Court. Gossip says Hughes, 80, may prefer a justice seat if a vacancy opens, as the cabinet reshuffle from the top down becomes a real possibility after the election.
A Florida East Coast railroad wreck near Wabasso last night left four dead and 18 injured. Seven passengers were rushed to a local hospital for treatment. the death toll included three women and a two year old child. Injured individuals include J. G. Hetheart and wife of Waycross Georgia. Research into cause underway by railroad officials.
Chicago report states two men are in custody and another sought as alleged extortion plotters targeting Mrs. Arvanda Huehl and her 70 year old mother. Victims were threatened with harm unless $10,000 was paid. The letters imitate the Leopold and Loeb case and arrived November 1.

Charles F Howe of Americus is named a member of the Eagle Club at Georgia Military Academy in College Park. Eligibility requires an average above 85 and a record of good conduct, making election a high honor for scholastic leaders.
Savannah reports 1923-24 cotton receipts almost double the prior season, rising 91 percent. BE R Teadsale, superintendent of the Savannah cotton exchange, notes the increase and G Arthur Gordon urges hiring an independent traffic expert to the exchange.

Major General Walter A Bethel, judge advocate of the army, retires today after a continuous service record of more than 39 years. He cites failing eyesight as the reason and will be succeeded by Colonel John J Hull who automatically becomes major general during his incumbency.
W C Baker a retired railroad man from Mount Auburn New York died at the Elks home in Bedford after drinking poisoned cider last Monday. The death toll at the home reaches eleven.
Mrs. Robert Stewart of Haralson county died after being shot while lying on the ground at her home Thursday night during an attempted abduction of her husband. Rev. Stewart, returning to aid the sheriff, identified five suspects and planned warrants. The attack followed his stance against liquor manufacturers and rum runners in eastern parts of the county. Mrs. Stewart, paralyzed from bullets entering her back, was brought to Atlanta for care. Sheriff Richards pursued the assailants as their vehicle party fled.
Marion Ohio November 15 Mrs Warr G Harding remains in a grave state after a fretful night. She lapsed into coma briefly then revived with intermittent rest. Doctors say kidney trouble and old illness at Write House could turn fatal at any time or possibly improve if her constitution holds.
In Grand Rapids Michigan Peter Giera aged 28 real estate agent and amateur photographer was arrested late last night for questioning in connection with the post office wreck that occurred Wednesday afternoon. A portion of the main nose remains unfinished in the report.
