Following a strong Liverpool market this morning New York cot ton prices jumped about four dollars a bale in the first half hour of trading January reached 33.32 with May at 33.65 as Liverpool and mill buyers were active.
Henry A Deriso aged 73 died at 2 am at his Leslie home from blood poisoning after a brief illness. Funeral services were at Leslie Baptist church conducted by Dr Carl W Minor with interment in Leslie cemetery. Surviving are widow four sons Roy George Cleve Albert and daughter Mrs Bernard Ratliff of Plains plus 19 grandchildren and many relatives. Pallbearers were local deacons D A Deavours J E Ranew H L Speer J T Bolton K H Hines J R Pilcher. He was a prominent Sumter County farmer and longtime New Hope Baptist resident.
A customs inspector found 200 cases of French liquor with a bootleg value of 90 000 dollars on Caniel No 1. The search also revealed 200 cases valued at 200 000 dollars in a boiler compartment. Investigators suspect past Capitol ship involvement in smuggling Chinese as well as rum. The Capitol, formerly John Cann, was seized off Perth Amboy with a large liquor cargo.
In Elmwood Park suburb, 14-year-old Frank Lawrence was shot and killed by his 12-year-old brother Victor with a double-barreled shotgun during a family quarrel over the weapon. Victor fled but was captured by three Boy Scouts in a field after the shooting.
Summerville November 12 A reported record sweet potato bounty was grown in Chattooga county by W W Scoggins and sons operators of a store farm and curing house one mile north of Summerville on the Dixie highway Their thirty acre yield this year was 2400 bushels about 80 bushels per acre an unusually high return for a dry summer and fall

He said cooperation from business across states is crucial to educate farmers and induce widespread use, or the pest will remain a threat.
New York November 12 The pianist Richard Nicosia collapsed after a stroke while playing the Missere leaving the studio. Soprano Selma Segall witnessed his death asking what amused him. Nicosia mentor to many singers and composers counted Enrico Caruso among close friends. He is survived by his widow and four children.
On November 12 in Griffin Spalding county citizens formed the Spalding County Eye and Poultry Association at the chamber of commerce offices. Temporary officers named were W. T. Bennett president and R. H. Weaver secretary, with J. H. Mills and J. W. Morton guiding the meeting. The group launched a campaign to recruit members across the county amid rising interest in the poultry industry. Spalding was the first Georgia county to ship a carload of poultry, inspiring others to ship there and boosting local commerce.
Mrs. J. J. Cummings donated 22500 dollars to Savannah first Baptist church to clear the Sunday school building debt. The gift establishes a memorial to Mr. Cummings noted for timber and lumber interests in Savannah.

Interment Crestlawn cemetery. Survived by widow, three daughters Mrs B L Mintosh, Mrs Lillie Bainbridge, Miss Daisy Hill, and two brothers Pola T Little and Charles F Little.
Barrow county sweet potato crop is being stored and cured in Winder by G. W. Summerour. The curing house, now in its third year, has four sections designed for 5,000 bushels each, though three have previously been filled. Farmers previously cured in old methods lost many crops. this year the storage is expected to reach capacity with shrinkage as the only loss.
Chattooga county farmers report nearly all crops gathered with ideal weather aiding early finish. Only a small amount of corn remains in fields and will be hauled in soon. The cotton crop is practically all gathered and sold quickly as good prices keep gins and markets busy.
Athens November 12. Mrs Sallie McWhorter wife of Judge Hamilton McWhorter prominent in University of Georgia affairs and state politics died in an Atlanta hospital early today. She was the mother of Bob McWhorter the famous University of Georgia football star.
Cleveland reports a clock in the physics building at Case School of Applied Science is the world's most accurate. In international tests it has just one second error in three years. The clock requires constant room temperature and air pressure. Dr. Dayton C. Miller leads efforts to fix the remaining deviation.
Havana boasts some of the cheapest transportation in the western hemisphere with five cent street car fares and over 5,000 small taxis offering 20 cent rides in the downtown zone. Drivers trialed 30 cent fares last spring but found lower revenue, while tips are not expected unless the driver goes beyond the ordinary.
