Secretary of Labor Davis informed President Coolidge that he wished to retire from his cabinet after March 4. He is the only cabinet member to indicate retirement, and the White House notes the president has not considered others yet and hopes Davis will stay.
Dion O Bannon known as King of the beer runners was shot and killed in his florist shop by three unidentified men. The Miller brothers Herschie Max and David, sworn enemies, surrendered and face arrest. Police moved to detain Earl Weiss Johnnie Torrio Yankee Schwartz and Dapper Tan McCarthy tied to hijacking and beer running. O Bannon was in his north side shop when the men entered and opened fire. Nation marks Armistice Day with two minutes of silence at eleven as radio taps and bugle calls sound and all activity pauses. In Chicago banks stock market and schools close with noon silence and halted traffic. Fort Benning prepares a mammoth pageant depicting U S entry into World War I written by Major Stillwell for the garrison tonight.
Theodore Douglas Robinson, nephew of the late President Roosevelt, reportedly nears selection as assistant secretary of the navy. He met with President Coolidge at the White House and then with Secretary Wilbur at the Navy Department, potentially becoming the fourth Roosevelt family member to hold the post.
Dallas Texas November 11 Mrs Miriam A Ferguson Democrat candidate for governor held a majority of 81393 votes over Dr George C Butte Republican as returns from 169 of 252 counties were counted today The figures show Ferguson 325382 and Butte 242989.
Official returns from 19 of 99 counties in Iowa show Senator Smith W Brookhart's unofficial lead over Daniel F Steck narrowing from 1025 to 897 votes. The update comes as vote tallies continue to come in from Des Moines and Ottumwa area precincts.
Washington November 11 President Coolidge will observe Armistice Day by visiting Arlington National Cemetery. He will place a wreath on the tomb of the Unknown Soldier buried there.

It notes 360 000 lost or wounded and warns that peace requires readiness to enforce will upon recalcitrant nations. The speaker emphasizes restraint and honor in maintaining a peaceful yet capable nation.
Ellaville November 11 The first contract covers sixteen and a half miles of State Highway 3 from Ellaville to the Sumter county line linking with a paved road from Americus toward Atlanta. The project runs from the Taylor county line through Schley County to Sumter with detours during surfacing. Two miles are expected to be finished by February 1 1925. Detours and a railroad crossing at J C King residence two miles south of Ellaville are planned.
Bodies of George C. Market 25 and Martin Williams found in a Savannah River launch near Augusta. Both fully dressed and possibly overcome by engine fumes while asleep. Engine still running. no violence suspected. facial expressions showed no pain.
Waycross, Nov 11. A grounded cable caused recent radio reception problems for city listeners. After repairs, football scores came through clearly by Saturday night on many stations.
Anaconda Montana on November 11 Art E Ecklund of Anaconda shot four ducks on Flint creek yesterday. Unable to wade the deep water he used a fishing pole and spinner. After three casts ducks were pulled ashore by a trout taking the lure each time before wind carried the birds to shore.
Eight veteran Elks residents of the Elks National Home at Bedford near Lynchburg died after drinking cider believed poisoned with a tree spraying chemical. Several others there are seriously ill as investigators probe how a farmer sold the barrel cider. The incident is reported from Lynchburg with casualties linked to a container previously used for pesticide liquid.
Walter Anderson of Montezuma is recovering at a clinic after being shot in the face and eyes by James W. McKenzie in Fort Valley on Sunday during a dispute involving Mrs. McKenzie. Doctors fear loss of a right eye. an operation was postponed, with bail pending in Perry and solicitor general reviewing the case. Mrs. McKenzie, a witness, tended Anderson at the bedside as the investigation begins.
Savannah authorities closed 17 business houses for one year amid liquor sale allegations. Proceedings targeted both owners and tenants, but later owners were found blameless. Local shops in Savannah faced shutdowns as part of enforcement actions.
An active war on hoes to shell on trains is being waged by Atlantic Coast officials with Ware County authorities. Heavy fines of 15 dollars or ninety days in jail are imposed by Judge Lee Crawley to curb the traveling habit.
Mrs Hugo Hubsch wife of a Cocoanut Grove druggist confessed to instigating the flogging of her husband on November 6 by masked men. She named members of the party and said she reported their identities. Hubsch, a World War veteran who was wounded in service, lay six years ago in an overseas hospital and remains seriously injured.
Jessie Hall, a negro tenant on R P Stackhouse’s farm nine miles east of Americus, wins $50 first prize with 17 bales per plow. Isaac Prince, near Tropic, gains $30 second prize with 16 bales per plow. Arthur Clark, tenant on Brown Hodges’ place, takes $20 third prize with 14 bales per plow. Thomas Ware, near De Soto on Jas A Snelling’s farm, earns $10 fourth prize with 15 bales per plow.
Missoula Montana November 11 Rewards totaling 1700 dollars were offered for the recovery within the next year of the bodies of William and Joseph Whitehead Chicago brothers who vanished during a Glacier National Park hike in August. The search was halted temporarily as early snows blocked clues and covered the area.
