Sumter County Invited Parade and Free Barbecue Event

The John D. Mathis Post American Legion invites all Sumter County residents to Americus on Saturday for a full day event including a 10 am parade, free barbecue of 100 hogs, a football game, and a dance at Rylander hall. Camp Benning’s 34 piece band will perform, traffic controlled by police, with free parade, barbecue, and queen reception. Admission for football costs 50 cents. other activities are free. The event is organized with civic clubs and local merchants assisting, and stores will stay open to boost business.

Queen Ernestine is Armistice Day Queen in Sumter county

Miss Ernestine Logan of Plains Georgia was chosen Armistice Day Queen in a Sumter county beauty contest organized by the American Legion. She received over two million votes from Americus and nearby towns. Her attendants include Agnes Gatewood Annie Ivey Gertrude Davenport Agnes Thomas and Theone Webb. They will appear on a secret design float announced by Mrs Lawson Stapleton Auxiliary president.

John D Mathis Heroic Figure of World War I Heroism

Atlanta reports incomplete returns from 85 counties show Peach county trailing by 486 votes. Sumter County voted against Peach, 124 to 0, with Americas county 373 to 272 against. Old 26th precinct supported the county by 78 to 19, while the 26th precinct voted 12 to 9 for it.
