News from Asheville arrives of a violent clash at a Swain County Indian reservation political meeting. William Bradley and his son Wallace opened fire with pistols and clubs, dragging a man from the building. Bradley men were cut and shot fatally while two others suffered serious injuries. Mesial Baker, Republican precinct chairman, appeals for support if further trouble occurs.
A red shirt rally in Wilmington North Carolina drew about fifteen hundred citizens who paraded to the city park amid incendiary speeches against black political gains. The event featured visible patriotic symbols and a crowd split along classes and professions.
