The courtmartial of Colonel Mitchell ruled he may call a long list of witnesses, including three cabinet officials, to defend himself against disciplinary charges tied to his attack on air policy. Major General Howze ordered the prosecution to secure witnesses and documents, and adjourned until Monday for subpoenas.
Wire reports from Memphis say the Georgia Peach Stribling knocked out Soldier Buck of Louisville in the third round of an eight round match. Upson county board of commissioners learns State Highway Commission approves four miles of paving on State Highway No. 3 with funds to be available early in 1926. Paving north of Thomaston will be shared by Federal government state county and Thomaston city. Citizens look forward to November 17 bond election for further city paving of $45,000.
Mrs. Sarah Francis Aycock died at her home in Andersonville after a three month illness yesterday evening. She was widowed from Jessie Aycock who died in 1922 and was a Primitive Baptist Church member. Survived by three daughters Emma Howell Lee Bunch and G T Jennings and two sons John Aycock and Jessie Aycock. Funeral held at 2 pm today at the Primitive Baptist Church with burial at Mt Olive Cemetery. Rev A M Murray officiated.
Peking dispatch says two American priests are held by bandits at St Johns Island south of Hong Kong. An American destroyer and a Chinese warship are reported en route to the island to resolve the situation.
Sumter County ginning rose to 20 880 bales by October 1, up 4 855 from 1924. Nearby counties varied Schedules list Lee 3 129, Macon 12 258, Marion 2 638, Schley 4 469, Dooly 18 027. Georgia total reached 1 051 622 bales for 1925 compared with 668 466 for 1924.
Harvey G. Harden age 48 assistant Trainmaster of the Alabama division of the Seaboard Railway died after four months illness at Mayo Brothers Chicago Clinics where treated for cancer. Surviving include his mother Mrs H G Harden Sr of Tampa wife daughter Mary Isabelle brother E W of New York and sisters in Tampa Chicago. Body will travel by special train to Waldo Florida for funeral services Wednesday. He was a Mason Alee Shrine Club Savannah member and Brotherhood of Railway Conductors member.
Columbus Industrial High meets A & M Eleven and Ashburn High visits Americus in two Friday football battles. Ashburn’s squad has been dominating South Georgia foes while Columbus Industrial also tops elite teams. Local fans urged to attend both games.
