Elliott Padrick, former Methodist preacher, was found guilty of first degree murder in the killing of his mother in law, Mamie Lou Dixon, last June. The jury recommended mercy, but the judge imposed life imprisonment.
In Thomasville on November 2 officers uncovered hidden beer worms disguised in barrels under poles and trash. The discovery shocked residents as the worms resembled a fishlike creature and were tied to illicit alcohol transport, drawing comment from local authorities and the public.
Members of the Lions club in Ordelre will host a ladies program tonight. The event features numerous elements and an estimated hundred participants.
Information from the governor’s office says ballots circulating in Georgia include names not on the Democratic ticket and sometimes lack or partially show constitutional amendments. In one county, Ber riga, ballots were seen without the proposed amendment creating the fifty second state senatorial district. Sam Marshal, a farm hand who shot and killed his wife on a Crisp county plantation last Saturday, is jailed in Sylvester after officers wounded him with three shots during a Tuesday night arrest. Officers report Marshal can be moved to this county soon.
The Presbyterian church in Americas opens a Bible conference led by Rev. Geo. J. Guille from Moody Bible Institute. Services run November 5 through 17 with daily sessions at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Guille, praised by pastors and church members, presents Christ centered topics including The Finished Work and The Kingship of Christ. Public attendance urged for all sessions.
The Albany South Georgia fair in Albany Georgia opens to large crowds with ambitious exhibits. Races feature pacing trotting and running with cash prizes from 300 to 500 dollars attracting top stock from the South and West. Agricultural livestock and poultry displays surpass previous years as management spends heavily. Visitors praise the event noting excellent exhibits, fine automobile and mercantile displays, and easy parking.
The annual week of prayer will be observed by the women of the First Methodist church from November 5 to November 10 with 3:30 PM sessions at the home of Mrs. George R. Ellis on Taylor Street. Topics include French Mission Schools in Louisiana and Our School in Havana Cuba, plus related discussions. A cordial invitation is extended to interested readers.

The United States Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans upheld the collection of bank checks at par in a decision released today. The ruling was reported to Helvis Randolph, general counsel for the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, via telegram.
