Washington on November 1 AP reports the 1924 great American Classic nears a decision amid waves of predictions. The contest spans the House and Presidency, 34 Senate seats, governors in 34 states, and numerous state and local offices. The outcome could alter the Republican edge and shift political tides nationwide.
The Democratic nominee John W. Davis predicted a Congress pledged to progress and liberal remedial legislation. He argued Senator La Follette has no chance and said President Coolidge will not be aligned with the policies of the anticipated Congress.
Democratic and Republican leaders in Nashville anticipate close results as Coolidge rivals claim a 34906 lead with La Follette electors while Davis is seen as likely winner by Democrats. Tyson and Lindsey vie for Senate amid a large pre election campaign. Tennesseans will also choose a governor, railroad commissioner, five Congressional contests, 15 General Assembly seats, and a constitutional convention.
New York workers from the allied printing councils endorsed Democratic presidential candidate John W. Davis after his return from Locust Valley to speak at Public School 17. The endorsement came via eastern Democratic headquarters and mirrored statements from the Central Trades and Labor Council of Greater New York. Officials called the vote typical of organized labor’s action nationwide.

County agent George Marshall urges cotton ginners to destroy gin trash promptly after ginning. In cooperation with the National Boll Weevil Control Association, he warns that weevils congregate around gins and survive in trash, spreading to cotton fields. he recommends feeding trash into closed containers and steaming or burning it to kill the pests.
Sheriff Harvey and deputies seized a large copper still on the old Josey Plantation near Leslie after a still hunt. Four enslaved individuals were found at the site preparing to fire the apparatus. The vessel is described as one of the largest captured in the county’s memory.
Dr Sun Yat sen, head of the South China government, has taken residence near the cement works at Canton after returning from Shiv chow. As a precaution against possible violence, approaches to the railway station were blocked and nearby homes were ordered sealed. The move signals heightened tension following his return Thursday.
Foreign guards patrolled Tientsin as wounded soldiers from Wu Pei Fu’s central government armies arrived by ship to the riverfront. In Butler Georgia on November 28 at 10 a.m. local time Willia Jones and Gervis Blowworth, aged 20 and 21, were scheduled for execution by hanging for the killing of a widow. Judge Munro of the Chattahoochee circuit Superior Court ordered the death sentence after a renewed trial.

E B Reid Washington representative stated the federation will not stand by as efforts spent on the proposition go to waste and will stay active in the matter.
In Stroud Oklahoma on November 1 two men died when a Meteor passenger train en route from St. Louis to Oklahoma City collided with a ten ton truck. Three coaches derailed in the accident. Authorities reported the fatal crash disrupted service and an investigation began into the wreck.
Tents for exhibits and livestock have been erected at the fair grounds under the supervision of Littlejohn. Exhibitors began moving displays as preparations for the opening on Tuesday proceed. H R Everett, president of the fair association, predicts the Sumter County fair will be the biggest and best yet with large community and school booths and likely record crowds if good weather holds.
Washington Nov 1 The Senate committee probing campaign funds has adjourned until after the election. Hearings in Washington and Chicago wrapped up and a preliminary statement of findings is expected before voters go to the polls. The panel adjourned with no material findings but disclosed methods that may spur moves to curb party spending.

Fulton county grand jury identified George Armstrong, 24, of East Lake Drive as the driver of the vehicle that struck Mrs. Josephine Moore of 105 Ponce de Leon Avenue, killing her last Sunday. Armstrong faced an involuntary manslaughter charge and a nationwide search was issued for him. The arrest warrant was given to Sheriff Lowry. The car sped away after the collision.
In Niles Ohio on November 1 clashes between Ku Klux Klan members and the Knights of the Flaming Circle erupted into street violence. Four men were shot and three others injured amid the mobs.
Columbus Ohio Nov 1 One regiment of the Ohio National Guard was ordered to mobilize this afternoon and report for duty at Niles Ohio by Governor Dohaney.
Niles residents faced a tense day as Ku Klux Klan members and an anti Klan group prepared for today’s showdown. Officials refused to revoke a parade permit while state troops were discussed. Police and guards were deployed, with hundreds staying home and shops to stay closed.
Mangus Johnson, the Minnesota farmer labor senator who won a special election landslide, campaigns hard to hold his seat. He says the work is tougher than farm labor, but he is satisfied serving the people. His renomination in June proceeded smoothly as the party split during primary season.
A meeting in the Chamber of Commerce offices Saturday decided city schools could not compete for prizes with country schools at the Sumter county fair in Americus. Objections were raised by country schools about disadvantage exhibiting against city schools. Officials from A ana ML and Mathis and Thalean schools indicated city groups would not participate in all exhibits.
