Southern League results shift Atlanta and Birmingham standings

Desperate Attack as Harsh Fight Ends in Jail
Wily Harvey, a Negro with an unsavory reputation, tried to kill his wife two miles from Americus. He slashed her face, drew a knife, and fought officers after urprising assault. Mr. Davids Chambliss intervened and was wounded in the back. The woman’s injuries are not serious. Chambliss’s wounds are minor. A crowd of bystanders was dispersed as police captured the assailant. From Savannah, May 28, the Central railroad states it will meet all fixed dividends due in June.

Americus Jail Opening Sparks Town Wide Event
Americus residents, led by local officials, will tour Sumter County’s new jail tomorrow afternoon. The state‑of‑the‑art structure features ten steel cells, multiple locks, lunatic and U S prisoner rooms, and fireproof construction. An open house from 4 to 6 p m invites ladies to view the building and learn its use, with builders and architect on hand for explanations.
