Schlageter Executed for Sabotage by French Troops

Albert Schlageter was executed by French troops in Dusseldorf May 26 for sabotage on occupied railroads and related offenses. He was shot after a procession by two priests to a stone quarry near the cemetery, ten shots fired. It was the first execution in the occupied zone.

Ruhr Strike Expands As Communists Loot Essen Warehouses

ESSEN Germany May 26 By the Associated Press bands of communists attacked and looted warehouses and overran the market. The Ruhr strike expands with thousands of iron and steel workers joining the miners. About 20 000 steel workers at Remsefeld near Elberfeld demand a 50 percent pay rise already refused. Estimates place 50 000 miners striking in the Gelsenkirchen district. The communist commission controls police headquarters at Gelsenkirchen. Negotiations continue with burgomasters and French authorities on a workers police force.

First Hydro Electric Current To Be Used In Americus Sunday

Americus will test the first hydro electric current here on Sunday. The experiment uses the current only to test transmission lines to Albany and will not indicate ready commercial distribution. Five governments including Britain Spain France Italy and the Netherlands informed the State Department of their views on the Supreme Court ruling barring liquor on foreign ships within the three mile limit.
