Griffeth and Burke Lose to Columbus Tennis Team

In Columbus, C H E Griffeth and Frank Burke lost to Lloyd Lowers and Frank Fontaine in a five set match. Southern Express Office Becomes Money Order Office

The Southern Express office in the city becomes a money order office issuing small amount orders on any U S post office at nominal costs. Orders under five dollars cost five cents, ten dollars eight cents, twenty dollars ten cents, thirty dollars twelve cents, forty dollars fifteen cents, and fifty dollars twenty cents. A single order tops at fifty dollars, with two orders allowed to send more. The system is safe and expected to grow in popularity.

News from Wayeness Georgia dated May 23 describes Ephriam Lerchael who killed I J Brown at Nichols and another black man captured near Hazelhurst. While escorting to Douglass the captives were attacked by a mob and lynched, according to the report.

Washington May 23 Attorney General Olney received the resignations of A E Buck United States Marshal for the Northern District of Georgia and W C Craig United States Attorney for the Western District of Virginia both to take effect June 30.
