Village school man is slain and buried in Amherst

Amherst, May 23. Police hunt a man who killed Miss Louise Gerrish, 19, village school teacher. Her body was found in a shallow grave in a pasture with seven buckshot wounds in her breast.

Army Tractors and Trucks Sent to States for Roads

Atlanta May 23 A plan to use 1 500 army tractors and 4 000 trucks now idle is proposed for highway construction by states with road programs. The Military Affairs committee reported the bill favorably after the War Department refused to allow state use of the machines.

Kidnaped Boy Murdered By Degenerate Captors

Chicago police and coroners investigate the 14 year old Robert Franks murder after his nude body is found in a culvert three miles from home. Witt and Goldberg Killed in Crash Near Holly Springs

Two men named Harry Witt of Memphis and Nathan Goldberg of Tampa were instantly killed when their car overturned on a sharp curve near Holly Springs Mississippi. The crash occurred today as the vehicle left the road and rolled over on the outskirts of the town.

Poultry car to extend territory on Georgia Florida lines

The Georgia and Florida railway poultry car will begin a new run Monday covering twenty eight branch stations from Statesboro at 9 am to Tennille by Wednesday May 29. The following week it returns on the main line, with special trains to cover the territory, buyers and sellers benefiting from the expanded schedule. The last trip yielded eight thousand pounds of chickens and over three thousand dollars in cash to raisers. Dr Clarence E MacArtney of Philadelphia was elected moderator of the Presbyterian Church in the United States of America at the 136th General Assembly in Grand Rapids. He won on the first ballot over Dr Charles Erdman of Princeton, with 464 to 444 votes. Nominated by William Jennings Bryan, he was praised as a scholar orator writer and parliamentarian who will not surrender to modernism as a substitute for the word of God.

The Batson-Cook Co of Chattanooga Tenn was awarded the Bibb Manufacturing project to build 35 houses in Payne Village Macon at a total cost of 88900 and 2540 per home. The project is among several mill property improvements by the firm in Georgia.

Columbus May 23 A thirty nine inch alligator was shot and killed on the river bank at the foot of Broad street at 3 30 yesterday afternoon by James Evans a 15 year old youth The boy spotted the reptile on the ground about three feet from the water and using a thirty two calibre rifle killed it The animal was observed by several persons in the lower part of the city yesterday afternoon.

Hixon committee to distribute calcium arsenate at cost

The Steering committee of the Sumter County Chamber of Commerce plans to supply calcium arsenate to farmers at 10 cents per pound. Two cars from Dow Chemical will be dispatched to Americus within hours, with further shipments to follow.
