Message in a Bottle Reveals Manistee Wreck Note Found
Five miles south of Bayfield Wisconsin a lumberman recovered the first rescue note from the steamer Manistee wreck. Dated November 1883 the bottle message describes a storm near sight of Michigan Outhouse and confirms the loss of all forty two on board. The Manistee traveled Chicago to Duluth when it sank during a north gale with no bodies recovered.
