Fitters of Feet announce better value in Southern Georgia with prices tied to quality. The Schumpert Shoe Co offers shoes hats and umbrellas and boasts a first class shoe maker in connection, guaranteeing both prices and workmanship. They solicit trade from customers.
About 800 postmen refused to work after the senate blocked a pay bill, swelling to 3,000. No mail was delivered, embassies lacked letters, and police clashed with strikers. The cabinet met and pledged severe punishment for leaders as deliveries planned to resume with civilian and military sorting efforts.
Buffalo May 18 outlook favors early settlement of the dock troubles as malcontents about 2 percent of shovelers may be persuaded by Bishop Quigley. The Hague May 18 The peace conference opened at seven in the Hall of the Houston Bush two miles from The Hague. M De Beaufort president of the council delivered the inaugural address praising the czars initiative and the choice of The Hague. Delegates sent telegrams to the czar offering congratulations on his birthday and pledging cooperation in disarmament. Also reported are two girls shot by mistake in Kentucky and a man praising a home for Wade Hampton, plus a tragedy in North Carolina where a mother killed her infant and wounded herself.
United press report from The Hague cites the czar in high hopes for progress at the peace conference. He favors arbitration and peaceful settlement of disputes, and believes American delegates will support international arbitration alongside Russia Britain and Japan. Germany is seen as the main stumbling block to agreement, with France Russia and the U S likely to back arbitration principles. A separate item notes a Washington suspect in a murder instigation case and a Chinese town occupation report from Hoxa Koxa.
