May 18 searchers drag the Oconee River for Ralph Shelton a nine year old drowned when his boat capsized at the Athens Manufacturing company plant yesterday. His brothers Will and Charley Shelton were rescued.

Krupp Directors Seen Confirmed Rupp Sentences

The court confirmed the sentences on Krupp von Bohlen and eight directors for instigating anti French actions at Krupp works. They will be sent to French prisons while counsel appeals. The case stems from a March 31 shooting during a demonstration against French requisition of autos.

Kiwanis Host Tre Guests Of Brag At Hut Build

Kiwanis and Boy Scouts gathered Thursday at McMath's mill to celebrate a new Scout hut. George Bragg organized the event with plentiful fish, coffee, cornbread, and cakes. After building the pine hut with 35 to 40 foot logs, attendees enjoyed races, a pond dunking, and a hearty meal.

Stribling Secures Two Knockouts in Atlanta Bout

Macon middleweight Stribling defeated Atlanta rival Al Nelson twice in five rounds. Nelson was injured in round three after a clinch shove, then knocked out in round five. Referee Kaliska ordered Nelson carried out as Stribling earned a belt on the first knockout, amid crowd protests. Nelson again dropped in round two from a series of rights and lefts.

City approves mosquito abatement sanitary ordinance

City council approved a sanitary ordinance to combat mosquitoes. It bans water holding vessels on premises within Americus, mandates inspections, and fines and imprisons residents who fail to remedy cited sanitary conditions by given deadlines. Butler Graduates Class Tuesday at Butler High

Street Tax At Albany Increases To Five Dollars

Albany May 18 An aging duty presses on male citizens 18 to 50 to pay the 1923 street tax by May 31. The police department under Chief R S Wallis collects $3 per person before June 1. Beginning June 1 the rate rises to $5 per head.

Barlow Street Juniors Win On College Lot

In an exciting baseball game on the College street diamond, Barlow Street Juniors defeated the Junior League team 25 to 24. Batteries for Barlow Street were Liggin and Roberts, for the Junior League Walker and Fort. No home runs were recorded by either pitcher.

Rotarians honor Glover with silver goblets at Americus meeting

Eight guests attended as Americus Rotarians installed new officers after presenting a silver six goblet set to retiring president Carl S. Glover. W. W. Dykes lauded Glover’s year of service while Glover thanked the club and noted their support for entertainments and club affairs. The Windsor Hotel hosted the event with performances by Melva Clarke and Mrs. W. H. C. Dudley. New officers include John Sheffield as president and Walter Rylander as vice president.

Southern Presbyterian Home Missions faces debt after funds drop

In Montreat North Carolina on May 18 the Southern Presbyterian church assembly heard Rev S L Morris report that Home Missions funds for the year totaled 523401, down 20030 from prior year. The committee now shows a debt of 35000 due to unfinished buildings and crises in growing institutions under its care.

Fire at Cleveland school kills many as lamp topples

Camden South Carolina May 18 Seven one are known to be dead and two others doubtful as a Cleveland school house fire following an oil lamp crash on stage during commencement claims many victims. The two story frame building burned rapidly and a collapsing stairway trapped and crushed patrons. Families wiped out as mothers with children in arms were trampled and people leapt from windows.

Joint funeral planned for Clevennd school fire victims

Camden May 18. Funeral services for about seventy victims of the Clevennd school house fire will be held jointly at six this afternoon near the ashes of the building. A committee appointed by Mayor Garrison is in charge of burial arrangements to inter all victims in one grave.

Chatham Annual Budget Nears One Million

Savannah May 18 The Chatham county annual budget nears the million dollar mark with an adopted expenditure of 976,904 dollars for the coming year. This shows an increase of 71,447 dollars from last year and plans include a camp for white women prisoners work on Tybee road and a new heating and plumbing system for the county jail.

New Highway Survey Completed for Montgomery County Route

Savannah May 18 A survey finished on an eleven mile stretch of state highway between Mt. Vernon and Soperton. Montgomery County will apply for 53000 in federal aid to build the one foot wide clay road. Construction expected to begin in three or four months as a vital link in the state highway system.
