City Council and Education Board Agree on 3 Hills
City council and a Board of Education committee reached a pact to introduce next month in the Georgia legislature a special tax act. It would provide the Board of Education 3 mills in ad valorem tax money for five years and keep the city’s 3 mills for liquidating floating indebtedness. The bill would raise the Board’s total income to 8 mills and add 1 mill to Americus’ levy. An earlier plan proposed a 5 mill emergency levy with 2 mills to the board and 3 to debt liquidation. The committee, led by W Dykes and including E B Everett and others, presented the matter to the council.
