An advertisement touts Puff Shirts at 1.00 and Balbriggan Underwear at 1.00 per suit with sizes 34 to 44, plus Fast Black Half-Hose at 15 cents. The copy urges quick visit to Bailey’s Manhattan Shirts and highlights low prices and responsive service in Men’s Furnishings.
The ad lists 25 dozen fast black ladies hose per pair and a wide range of fabrics and notions from 5 cent to premium folding fans. It promotes French Percale, Nainwork, Mohair crepon, French Organdies, China Silk and Linon with prices per yard, highlighting special weekly bargains at Geo D Wheatley.
Savannah special reports the Central Railroad and Banking Co of Georgia elected its directors by an overwhelming vote of Savannah bank presidents, with Charles S. Fairchild substituted for James Swann on the slate. A bid to vote 42,000 Central Trust shares was blocked. an appeal to higher courts is anticipated. The trust and Richmond Terminal contested holdings were debated at the meeting. Additionally a Baltimore and Ohio rate case ruling on discount tickets for large parties is noted. At the Senate in Washington a Catholic funeral service was held for Senator John S Barbour of Virginia. The scene drew large crowds as the body lay in state with candles and a brass crucifix on display.
A recent lightning strike damaged four trolley wires and an armature on the Americus electric railway. Service paused around two p.m. as repairs began led by J.P. Williamson with Frederick A. Hilla en route from Thomson-Houston. If no delays occur, cars should resume this afternoon.
Negotiations between the city and the MHlumination and Power Co. to install an underground gas engine to operate the artesian well at Lee and Lamar streets could save the city about one dollar daily.
