Miss Emma Allen Chosen Temporary Hospital Superintendent

Emma Allen former graduate of Americas and Sumter County Hospital was selected as temporary superintendent to fill the vacancy from Ada Finley’s resignation. She will assume Thursday morning after a vacation in Fitzgerald with her parents. The Hospital Association met with Mrs. C. C. Hawkins presiding and full attendance. Mrs. George Van Riper joined the executive board, replacing Mrs. Henry B. Mashburn. R. I. Maynard chairs the executive board. Van Riper and E. J. Sheahan join the board of directors. A report noted needed repairs to the old hospital building on Barrow Street.

Atlanta May 14 Rev J Gambrell president of the Southern Baptist convention opened the meeting with a sharp critique of the war department and praised religious work in training camps. Dr Tansing Burrows presented a digest showing Baptists’ finances with home and foreign missions totaling over 206 thousand dollars for the year and Georgia Baptists leading in combined missions contributions. Female Baptists in Georgia contributed much to foreign missions and home missions, with women accounting for a large share of the total.
