European passengers were terrorized aboard the Taishan when pirates disguised as travelers overpowered the crew near Swatow. The ship sailed two hours at night without lights and abandoned near a creek mouth, transferring loot valued at $60,000 to a small boat.

May 14 Linoneng dispatches report that Wen the bandit chief sent a message warning that captives would be killed within two days if terms were not met. Pete Evans Shot in Sunday Quarrel on Planation Road

Pete Evans is dead and Ed Robertson is jailed after a late Saturday shooting on the L. G. Council lower plantation between Americus and Cobb. Robertson confessed to firing a single shotgun shot during an argument over a small debt for medicine. Sheriff Harvey arrived soon after. Evans' wife witnessed the event.

Lucian Trowbridge Hurt In Long Fall

Lucian Trowbridge a 15 year old messenger for Western Union fell three stories from a Five Points roof while attempting to rob pigeon nests. An awning broke his fall and likely saved his life though he was severely injured. His companion Herbert Toler accompanied him to the hospital. In Macon on May 14 the Continental Packing company started the season with 115 workers. For the first time in Georgia asparagus will be canned. Elorida Sheriff Nabbed on Federal Konaping Charge

Federal authorities take over the case from Florida officers as Sheriff Jones of this county, a Martin Tabert case figure, is arrested on conspiracy and kidnapping charges. Pope Expected To Die From Injuries In Dublin

In Dublin on May 14 George Pope aged 50 suffered a severed head and a left arm amputated after an axe attack. His son in law Will Tipton was arrested. The couple argued frequently with Pope’s daughter, who sought her father's counsel. Tipton says the assault was justifiable self defense.

D. H. Horton died at 57 after a two year illness. The body left Americus at 6 40 Sunday for Carrollton where funeral and interment occurred. Survived by widow seven daughters and eight sons.
