Lessees Fined in Georgia Convict System Probe

In Atlanta on May 5 Governor Atkinson imposed fines totaling 2500 dollars on convict lessees after a state high court investigation. Hamock Brothers Wound in Talbot County Dispute

In Talpotto, Georgia two Hammock brothers Jim and Bone Hamook quarrel over field work. Jim Hamock was seriously wounded, throat cut, condition critical. The incident may lead to homicide charges if he dies. Nearby, a telegram from Tampa reports Pastor A J Diaz, a Baptist missionary, arriving after recent arrest and imprisonment by Spanish authorities.

Gasoline stove explosion kills four in Brooklyn tenement

A Brooklyn stove blast in a Johnson street building killed Mrs. Rebecca Cohen and Mrs. Pasternock and two Cohen children while two other children plus several adults suffered severe burns. Firemen found the women in the hallway where efforts to aid them ended in further flames. A second blast injured Isaac Kursham, who escaped with head wounds.

Bucket shops ruled legitimate like boards of trade

Judge Horton quashed 11 indictments against William Skabel and ten others accused of operating bucket shops. He said bucket shops are a retail trade and no real difference exists between their methods and those of the board of trade wheat business. The court suggested remaining indictments will be similarly disposed of.

Weiberg versus United States case before Supreme Court

May 4 in Wasnixoton the solicitor general moved to advance Weiberg versus United States for hearing this term, alleging aid to a military station in Gen annenite laws. May 6 in Toowasvittz, Ga, Charles Platt, 17, white, quarreled with Jack Sharp, a negro, who struck him with a plank causing his death. Sharp surrendered.
