Neighbor Shot in Backyard Incident on Brown Street

D T Jennings, a well known Americas man, was shot and wounded in the back yard of R P Ewing at 217 Brown Street in dense darkness. The double barreled shotgun fired only No. 5 shot, leaving Jennings to seek help on Brown Street. Ewing expressed deep regret and said he did not recognize his neighbor during the shooting. Cuban government seeks arms from United States

The Cuban government, facing violence in Santa Clara, asked Washington to buy arms and ammunition for Zayas forces. The State Department approved and sent the request to the War Department, which will supply the arms despite an embargo. Secretary Weeks is absent, and War Department officials would not disclose quantities, but indicated no trouble in fulfilling the order from surplus war stocks.

Wounded Desperado Ends Life After Gun Battle

Littleton Colorado May 3 A wounded and tailed desperado known as Black Joe Russo escaped jail with Carmel Errizo. After leading a marshal on a road chase Russo shot himself in the temple ending the gunfight. Virgil Stephens city marshal pursued and wounded Russo before the fatal shot. Errigo surrendered and was held by the posse.

Auto tag revenues rise sharply in Georgia for 1924

Atlanta May 3. Through April 30 the secretary of state's automobile department collected 2 117 156 83 in tag licenses for 1924, exceeding 1923 by 301 001 19 and nearing last year's full total. Projections suggest total 1924 receipts will surpass 2 500 000 as about 15 percent of vehicles remain delinquent. delinquent payers face 20 percent extra. the revenue department began Jan 1 to collect delinquent taxes and takes over May 1 for autos.

Randolp Williams Accident Victim at Bicycle Crash

Randolph Williams, a Times Recorder carrier boy, fell from a bicycle near Freeman bicycle shop and ruptured an artery in his left hand while spraining his wrist. He is the son of Mr and Mrs D Williams and was described as a likeable youth with many friends. He is expected to resume duties within a few days.

White Leghorns Pay Dividends in Cordele Farm

Twenty Wyneff variety white leghorn hens bought February 18 by a Cordele dairyman laid 210 eggs in rest of February, 480 eggs in March, and 482 in April, averaging fifteen eggs daily since purchase.

Moor Martin Seen Heading Northwest Beyond Chignie Lake

Alaska dispatch reports natives sighted Major Frederick Martin the missing aviator headed northwest beyond Chignie Lake and False Pass toward the Bering Sea. Wireless alerts extended to vessels in the northern sea as search parties assemble along the rock shore. Three additional planes are ordered to depart for Atka Island, about 350 miles west of Dutch Harbor.

Parker denies allegation by Aliens Attorney

Louisiana Governor Parker rejects a claim by George Gulotta, attorney for six condemned men at Amite, who said the governor vowed to have them hanged if the people did not lynch them. Gulotta says an application for a writ of habeas corpus will be filed Monday to seek a death stay.

Frederick Frederick Killed In Auto Accident Near Marshallville

Americas relatives learned of the fatal auto crash near Marksallville that killed T. R. Frederick, Macon county business leader, while returning from a business trip between Marshallville and Montezuma. Persal Baldwin survived with a sprained back and bruises. Frederick’s body was recovered hours after the wreck. Funeral set for Sunday at 3 p.m. in Marshallville. many Americas residents expected to attend.

Woodruff Visits Sumter Voters in Georgia PSC Bid

Albert J. Woodruff, candidate for the Georgia Public Service Commission, toured Sumter county voters in Americas as part of his campaign.
