Basic remedy sought to reorganize coal industry

The aim is to collect data for proposed administration plans to reorganize the entire industry. Officials say plans do not hinge on a specific settlement, but address fundamental issues of intermittent employment and irregular production.

Cotton Rises On Crop News From New York Market

New York May 2 fear of an unfavorable start for the new cotton crop spurred heavy activity and a strong market. Prices rose about 1 1/2 dollars per bale from last Thursday. Americus spot middling cotton at 18 cents. Liverpool market opened quiet with 6,000 bales sold. futures at June 10.87, Sept 10.36, Dec 10.58.

Balloon romance ends in mystery up in Americus

Donald Gibson Reeves of New Orleans sent $17 for a promised April 24 wedding with an Americas girl after a balloon name mapped to Moultrie Georgia. The girl’s exact identity is withheld. Reeves seeks help as police report that chief Bragg sent back letters and will not intervene, fearing involvement with white slavery.

Presbyterian delegates open Macon session at Americas church

The Macon Presbyterial opens its annual sessions at Americas Presbyterian Church with every delegate present for the first time in memory. The program runs through Wednesday with a pageant by Christian Endeavor boys, and features including prayers, worship, conferences for Colored Women, and officer installations. Man who built Andersonville wall to inspect work after 44 years

Wm B Marche of Washington DC, 80, longtime timing and heating contractor and Masonic Home resident, visited Americus and Andersonville to review the brick wall and caretaker’s residence he built in 1879. He recalled bidding, brick quality, and later contract transfers while detailing the project’s costs and materials.

Fire Rescue Delayed In Jackson Street House

In Americus early Tuesday a two story home on Jackson street caught fire trapping Mr and Mrs Sam hamson and their son on a back porch for 25 minutes before rescue. The fire started in the stairway driving flames up the hall as occupants awoke to smoke. Fire department arrival was delayed by a misdirected call and slow town search before crews used a ladder to save the family. All other occupants escaped through windows or other means.
