Dr. R M Walsh assistant state veterinarian reported all city meat markets complied with sanitation orders in Americus before departing on rounds. One small outskirts shop failed initially but corrected quickly, leading to meat disposal and floor scrubbing. He will monitor unannounced and return to ensure ongoing compliance.
Kiwanis club members at the Windsor hotel luncheon discussed improved sanitation for food and milk sold in Americus. County agent George C. Marshall cited two carloads of tubercular cattle, including milk cows, found in Sumter county and disposed of after state veterinary checks. He urged hiring an official to oversee sanitation, noting a neighboring county solved the issue by employing a veterinarian who also did private practice, suggesting similar county arrangements could boost safety with modest cost.

Lisbon March 81 By Associated Press Captains Sacadura and Coutinho of the Portuguese naval aviators completed the initial leg of their Lisbon to Pernambuco flight. They landed safely at Las Palmas in the Canary Islands at 3 o clock after starting from Lisbon yesterday morning, reaching the first stage without incident.
Cor dele will close businesses at 6 pm starting April 1 as the city league begins a ten week baseball schedule. Over a hundred local business men form teams, with games rotating to avoid simultaneous starts on city papers.
In Pana Illinois 800 miners quit work before noon as a walkout begins in Illinois coal fields. Indianapolis officials report the last day of work under the current wage scale ends today for about 500000 union coal miners with suspension to start tonight at midnight, though most will halt six hours early in the mines. A total tie up of union fields in twenty states is forecast by union officials.
Birmingham dispatch says Alabama field may gain from a coal miners strike if it happens. Operators and non union men estimate about 2,000 of 10,000 union miners are employed, while over 20,000 non union workers were at work last week.

Belfast dispatch says demobilization of police in six Ulster counties starts today and should finish by May 8. Disbandment in 26 southern counties begins concurrently and to be completed as soon as possible.
In Nassau Bahama Islands the Colonial Hotel at Nassau one of Flagler hosteleries was reported burning. At 10 15 a m a radio message said the entire town was threatened by fire with losses in the millions the hotel later dynamited to check the flames.
Lower Michigan was under snow and ice with crippled communications and many highways impassable. A glaze covered the southern peninsula while the north saw heavy snow. Michigan State Telephone officials reported equipment damage could reach 1.5 million dollars.
The United Mine Workers of America argue that reducing earned wages for non union workers lowers all American citizens and degrades the coal industry. They insist business should honor contracts and claim the public supports a fight for justice and a higher moral standard in mining.
